Done!

Finally done!

This went through a few iterations where I wasn't sure if I wanted to make it a story-based game that talks about the culture and context around mahjong, or more of a simple tutorial, and it's become a bit of this and a bit of that.

While I've worked on several game jam games in the past, as well as a few published games as part of a bigger team, I consider this my first complete solo project. On the surface, it doesn't seem significantly more complex or longer than some of the jam games I've made, but as a newbie programmer, the mahjong system was the biggest and most rewarding challenge. I also learned a ton from creating the dialogue system for the tutorials from scratch.

I had to abandon some ambitions for now, like adding more Mahjong variants and a multiplayer mode, but I suppose those aspects are already available via existing Mahjong clients. The main thing that I struggled to find on other platforms was an engaging way to learn how to play from scratch. They tend to assume a basic understanding of the game, much like how poker or texas-hold-em is broadly understood in the West. So if you're curious about how to play Mahjong but don't have anyone to teach you, I hope you will give this  game a try.

I  made this as a way to reconnect with a culture that I've been distant from for too long, and I hope it can help others connect with it a little too.
